I think that your point about analysing too much is interesting. Personally, I've always enjoyed analysing poetry; it feels as though you uncover a revelation with each new line. But as you say, this doesn't necessarily provide a window into the core of what really makes poetry moving. I feel that sometimes we forget how varied our experiences are from one individual to another, and so when we read literature we all view it in slightly different ways. This, I think, is really where poetry/prose begins to connect on a personal level, and it is the author's duty not to feed us so much information that what we see is ultimately something we don't care about, because we cannot apply our own meaning to it.
