Noticing Newbies

Naturally, you can tell that I'm a newbie, but am just curious as to where I will fit in. I don't have any formal training in writing and feel that writing is inspirational and based on your own experiences and imagination. Right now I am just trying to figure out where to get started and how to utilize writing.com properly and am hoping someone will provide me some insight into this. I was thinking of basically starting like journal writing and see where that takes me, but better understanding of this website will help me. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
