It sounds like you've got an awesome attitude about "catching up" - and I think that liking what you write when you "take the reins off", as you say, is really what NaNo is all about. I think you'll reach that 50K mark, because you have the determination. But, really, the point is to push yourself and to just allow yourself to write whatever comes out. To me, it's just as much learning about yourself as a writer as it is actually "winning"!

Whether or not your novel is even, technically, "finished" by November 30th, you've got something awesome to work with and play with for as long as it takes... well, at least until the madness starts all over next November!
