Say hello to the newbie
by Oni Author IconMail Icon
Hello, and thank you for having me. My name is Terry and I have only been a member of WDC since 3/10. I recently retired from my past job, at a relatively young age to chase several dreams, one of them, my passion for writing. How I saw it was that I had lived with enough regrets and what Ifs in my life and If I didn't chase after at least one of my dreams then I would probably live the rest of my life as a what IF. So here I am, chasing dreams.

The novel I will actually post I have not put it on WDC yet. I do have a couple other pieces there so feel free to read them in your spare time. What seems to happen with me is that I write my main novel and I get ideas for sequels or other novels. I read everywhere not to let ideas go to waste so if I get one, I stop whatever I am doing and begin writing. Sometimes it turns out to be just a pool of ideas. Sometimes it turns out to be a chapter or 2. My main novel right now is about 17 Chapters deep with the rest laid out in brief Chapter layout drafts. Much of my writing and improvements have come from writing and reading crits.

I have yet to find a really good organized way of setting up my writing and tend to be a seat of the pants type of writer. Although I found this intriguing method called teh snowflake. (If anyone has used please let me know.) Hopefully I can get a grip on the organizational part to improve my output. I generally write at least 2k words a day.

As for critiquing. I am very new to it and what I have learned has come from reading in general, from critiques on my own writing and a wonderful site called critters.org dedicated to fantasy, sci-fi and horror novelist. It is very similar to this forum and requires participation which is why I liked the idea of joining you here.

I hope I do not come off too blunt in my reviews. I try to tell things like I see them and as usual it's just my humble opinions. I try to make suggestions based on what I like or see and try to maintain the voice of the author in my suggestions. I don't know if I am doing it the right way, but I welcome any suggestions on improving my critiquing and my writing in general.

Looking forward to reading your work.
