Personally, her decision to become a Gatekeeper is a little obvious. There's no internal conflict or struggle, she is just reacting to a situation in a way that anyone would. The choice loses meaning. This may add to her personality as a character... if that's your intended effect. Just be aware that it takes something from the story when she is forced into the decision like that.
