Fact per Mike Wonch: It ain’t a good review unless I throw a tantrum and CRY |
Not being a statistician, I can't speak directly on this issue, but I know there is in fact a phenomenon that statistics takes into account when "grading" numerical "rate this from 1 - 5" type surveys. It is just human nature. A certain percentage of people will never rate something as perfect, just like a certain number of people will never rate something as worthless. While I agree that it is odd, I just accept it for human nature and don't put much thought into it. Maybe because I'm a bit of a perfectionist myself and nothing I ever do will be "perfect" - but I do know when to leave "well enough" alone. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "...it's writing ...not washing the car or putting on eyeliner. If you can take it seriously, we can do business. If you can't or won't, it's time for you to close the book and do something else. Wash the car, maybe." ~Stephen King, "On Writing" "Any word you have to hunt for in a thesaurus is the wrong word.
