Fact per Mike Wonch: It ain’t a good review unless I throw a tantrum and CRY |
You're not alone in thinking of the stars as "Meaningless". Lots and lots of members do. Even if you didn't quite mean it, you're not alone. "stars are useless' is the common mantra. They're usually talking of low stars though. LOL I believe that too many undeserved high rates diminish their worth. But they are very effective in boosting egos. So effective that when someone receives less than usual they go into panic attacks. When I give a review, I put just as much thought into the rate as I do the comments. I give a lot of 2.5's because I read a lot of work that is average and needs work. Simple. What bothers me just as much is all the 4.5's on 'perfect' pieces. Giving that extra half point would do more for that writers ego than the 5 does for an average piece. Those that rate to encourage bad writes for some reason don't think it's necessary to give that same enocouragement to good writes. I find that very odd and very negative.
