The crunch crunch crunch of tightly packed snow had echoed through the woods for the last three hours. When the crunching stopped the woods grew eerily quiet around us. Nobody wanted to move forward, but there was nothing to run back to even if we could get the muscles in our legs to work properly. Ahead of us was an old but well maintained building that was a cross between a farm, a house, and a creepy church. An unweeded snowless path lay between us and the front door, but even if it had been the yellow brick road we would not have walked up it. None of us were that stupid.
