Chester was pained and lost. His wife of fifty-five years, just suffered a devastating stroke. They were like two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together. Esther was now paralyzed and her speech was affected. What was he to do? The doctor asked if there was any other family and all Chester could do was shake his head in affirmation. "I will give you the names of our children. I can't call anyone right now. Can someone call for me?" "Yes sir. We can make the calls for you," said Teri Hughes, one of the nurses. Chester stared into space and was silent. Within the hour, his son, Lance, came to his father's side. After seeing his mother and speaking with the doctors about her prognosis, Lance and his wife started to take charge of the situation. Soon Chester's daughter, Sabrina arrived with her son, Robert. Robert gave his grandfather a hug and Chester did not even acknowledge his existence. He even pushed Robert away. Being only ten, Robert didn't understand why his grandfather was acting in this manner. Sabrina went to hug her father and he pushed her away. Sabrina told her father that she would take care of both of them. Chester ws only concerned with what was lost-his marriage to Esther. |
