"I'm standing in front of what is now left of the Supreme Court, here in..." I spoke crisply and clearly into the microphone I was carrying. Poker-faced, impassive. It wasn't my job to wear my heart on my sleeve.

"The situation here is dire. There is a distinct lack of emergency personnel further exacerbated by the government's unwillingness to allow more troops in." Behind me, another explosive went off and I tried not to squirm as I felt the heat against my back.

"Medical supplies are running low and all non-citizens have been advised to leave the country immediately." I scrambled through the last of my broadcast and wiped the beads of sweat forming on my forehead in relief once the cameraman called, "Cut!"

The Minister walked up to me. "Good job," he smiled. "But next time, try not to rush through the end. People may suspect, you know." He gripped my shoulder tightly. "You had better rehearse before the next broadcast."

The actors behind us started getting up from their positions. The fire engines by the sidelines doused the fires and the backstage crew took away the green screens.

The Minister tapped the shoulder of his Head of Defence. "Kill the spares," he muttered.
