>> My issue seems to be the "urge" is not flowing right now << Jon - Sometimes when I look at what I still need to do to finish a novel, I feel so overwhelmed with the size of the task that I shut down. In this case, I do one of three things: 1) If for some reason finishing the novel soon is crucial, I stop writing and instead focus on what plot points I will need to touch as I finish it. Who fights? Who makes up? Who sleeps with whom? This sort of planning uses such a different part of the brain that sometimes the change works. Best of all, once the plot points are down solid, the writing becomes easier because now I have a bunch of small targets instead of one big target. I just need to do little hops from each plot point to the next. 2) I love writing short stories, partly because they are a manageable size. There are tons of contests around (let me know if you want some links, though I don't have any for erotica) and these make for good inspiration. If you can whip off a short story and send it somewhere, even though you are not progressing on the novel, at least you can feel like you've done something useful. 3) As a last resort, I start a new novel. This is dangerous, because you run the risk of having a computer full of partial novels. I've got too many in that state right now. But I do rotate. For example, I gave up on Lady Jessica almost a year ago, and I'm just now going back to it to try to finish it. Hope these thoughts help.
