Hmmm... that's a good question.

I like endings in which we are left a little bit hanging, although not so much cliffhanger as unresolved emotion--do you get my drift? *Smile* But in your list of options, yes, I would go for ambiguous. Generally I detest happy endings.

Option two, some-die-and-the-world-is-better-that-way, reminds me of how JK Rowling ended the last Harry book, and the only things I have to say are, if it works for her it could work for you. *Bigsmile*

But writing reflects personal opinions and preferences, and since you stated that you preferred ambiguous, I say go for it. Good luck with the story!
