Fountain of Knowledge

You want to be prepared when an idea hits you. The hardest for me is when I'm driving. One of my novels began as an idea that struck me while I was riding my exercise bike. BAM! By the time I was done with my ride, I had the title and the names of the six main characters (and the basic story line of course). I went out and spent an hour or two painting fencing for my horse. By the time I came in, I pretty much vomited (gross, huh, but it is a pretty accurate description of what happened) the first 3 chapters onto the page. That was the genesis of

I find it is good to be prepared wherever I go. Get in the habit of carrying a little notebook with you so you can jot down ideas as they come up. Don't trust your memory, because life gets in the way. I even keep a notebook and flashlight near my bed. You never know when that killer idea is going to hit you.
