Noticing Newbies

I have always loved to read and for the past twenty years have had an intermittent yet sometimes very strong urge to write. I took a writing class a number of years ago and have fitfully written ever since. I have nothing of fiction published (that is the genre that interests me the most) but have had some scientific articles and abstracts published. I know that many aspiring and published writers have blogs, but I have been reluctant to join the throngs. Although I know I can write well, I'm not certain I have anything of general interest to say or have a particularly interesting viewpoint. What I think I'd like to do is begin an online journal where I can commit to writing regularly, perhaps also communicating with others who share the passion for exchanging ideas in compelling and artful ways.
