We like it hot and sexy! |
Sasha, Thank you so much for this post. I really appreciate your thoughts and words. Like Cat Stevens in the Carly Simon song, I'm so vain I think this post is about me. Anyone who has read D.H. Lawrence knows that erotica can be literature. John Rechy has written some of the most powerful books I have ever read about the gay experience, and they are full of sex. Classics like "The Story of O" resonate to this day. The original tales that the Grimm brothers collected were full of sex and death -- they "cleaned them up" for the sensibilities of the day and in many cases ruined them by doing so. One of my favorite mystery writers, Lawrence Block, spent ten years doing nothing but writing erotica. He made a living doing it and says he learned his craft writing these novels. I can tell from the pieces I've read here that some of the most talented writers on this site are in this group, posting work on these pages. I feel very privileged to be able to read their work. I'm not sure I have the skill level to weave the explicit sex scenes into the narrative of the story. -- at least yet. I'm learning from reading the work here, seeing the scenes deftly flow together. So perhaps someday one of my stories won't pass from "let's go home together" to "isn't breakfast yummy" with three little # # #'s in between where all the intimacy happened. The problem is not one of taste or preference, but rather skill level and craft. And, of course, artistic vision, as you so eloquently point out. Thank you for your post and for sharing.
