Re: OT: POV gender and reader's eroticism
I see what your worried about, Tim. Quality writing, no matter how much time it takes, is quality writing. Whether the main character is male or femal is immaterial if the reader gets in their head and feels with that character. Even homosexual characterization falls under that rule. That is the whole point of characterization. I haven't seen the movie Brokeback Mountain but i understand it is really good, primarily because of the characters and the way the actors portayed them. But the book was a bestseller. I have no problem differentiating betweeen straight and gay characters if I can get a feel for the character. And I take no offense. Yes, a well described hot guy in a story might make my pulse jump. But a gay character does not turn me off. When I write a review it's based on my feel for the story, the plot, and the people in the story and nothing else--except maybe grammar and spelling. Okay, I'm long winded but does this help?
