Fact per Mike Wonch: It ain’t a good review unless I throw a tantrum and CRY |
No complaints from me on the number. I see. I guess I was thrown off by the part where you said you wish the number weren't so arbitrary. 43 or 69...those would be arbitrary numbers. Our number system is base 10, so a multiple of 10 makes perfect sense. Since you asked a direct question, I'll give you a direct answer: yes, I think you are being silly. Every aspect of the reviewing system recognizes current reviews; for example, public reviewing credits expire after 31 days and your reviewing count goes down when an item is deleted. Review Recognitions should work the same way. You only lost about 8% of your Review Recognitions and 2.5% of your total Community Recognition number, which was the 12th highest on the site before this and remains the 12th highest on the site. You're still very much recognized. Since when are Review Recognitions the only Recognition for which the member has to do something? I'd like to think that most Merit Badges aren't just given willy nilly, and I'd also like to think that members aren't promoted just because their names are drawn out of a hat. Staff is currently purging accounts that haven't been logged into for over a year, which is what caused your sudden and drastic drop. You only lose a review credit if the reviewee leaves the site or deletes the entire item, not just the review. You may be affected a bit more because you review a larger share of newbies, many of whom are more likely to disappear than an established member, but you're certainly not the only one affected. It's probably not a result of the members deleting the items only, but if your reviews make more than a few people crestfallen enough to do that, then I'd suggest evaluating whether you were "doing it right" after all. Review Recognitions are nice to get, but our primary interest in reviewing should come from helping out authors (especially less experienced newbies), improving our own writing skills, etc. Hopefully, those less tangible rewards are far more important than the number next to your handle. ![]() ![]() ![]() "The Kraken Revue" ![]() ![]() A quick guide to my portfolio.
