If this topic has been thrashed to death, I've forgotten by now, so I'm interested in the answers. I guess I should give one of my own, but this is no easy question to answer. As a kid, I read animal and survival types of stories. I don't think I ever intended to escape. If I wasn't reading about animals or watching them on TV, I was being one myself. It was as natural as breathing. I've only really been reading in fantasy/sci-fi recently (as in, after writing my fantasy/sci-fi novel and joining this group). I think the reason I gravitated towards writing the genre, though, is because of the way I see stories in my head. I suppose I envision them in such a fantastic, dramatic way that they just wouldn't work in any other kind of genre. That's why fantasy and sci-fi shows and movies were always more interesting to me. The cinematics, the music, the sheer scope of the emotional battles, they're all so much larger. I mean, a career-oriented young woman finding herself in humorous ways is one thing, but if she's finding herself in humorous ways while saving the world from a curse or a bioengineered disease? It's just better to me. Besides, I dislike time travel, so putting Zoe in the court of Louis the XIV was out of the question. And I don't mind research, but I like making up my own rules too. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
