A place to mingle and meet friends. |
Homosexuality is difficult to deal with in the world, not just in the Church. It's become so politically and emotionally charged that people are afraid of discussing it--even with those who care about them the most. You rarely hear anyone suggest homosexuality can be changed or overcome because people are afraid to be accused of homophobia or bigotry. Unfortunately, this leaves those who are afflicted with few places to turn except to those who don't have their best interests at heart. I suggest you follow this link to Evergreen International, which is a site supporting LDS members struggling with same-sex attraction: http://www.evergreeninternational.org/ Remember, Heavenly Father wants us to be happy. And as Nephi declared, the Lord won't give us a commandment if he doesn't prepare a way for us to keep it (1 Ne. 3:7). Nephi and his brothers had to do things that were difficult, scary, and even dangerous to fulfill God's commands. In the end, Nephi succeeded because he was willing to do whatever it took to be obedient. That requires a lot of commitment and determination. Whatever your friend decides, give him all the support you can. Since he's already been struggling for 10 years, it appears this won't be solved overnight. What he's going through is severely difficult and will most likely damage his feelings of self-worth. Try to love him like you know Heavenly Father loves him. |
