Riding hard at breakneck pace
Down the dusty trail I race
Long and hard will be this ride
As I run to save my hide

A small-town sheriff I did attack
And shot the fellow in the back
And now it's either run or die
So down the dusty trail I fly

Behind me now I hear the sound
of hoofbeat striking upon the ground
I feel a stab of seering pain
And release my horse's rein

I feel my lifeblood leaving me
And the last thing that I see
Is the barrel of a gun
Held by my victim's teenage son
