Can't we be encouraging and honest?
Absolutely. These should both be present in the comments.
If members look at the rate and only see a negative, discouraging review, without reading the comments, it isn't fair to anyone; and it makes it almost impossible to match the rate with the comments. No one
wants to be shut out and thought less of because of a rate they gave. It's safer to give higher rates, and one or two suggestions.
I never give a negative review. Negatives to me, are mean and nasty comments. Negative to others is a lower rate than they expected. It depends on how we perceive the word.
In fact, I rarely see a negative review from anyone on the public page. They all include encouragement. If encouragement is found in the stars only, why should we bother to comment?
2.5 stars are not encouraging, but as Elisa and Robert pointed out, they certainly can be motivating to the writer if the comments make sense.
