A sanctuary for weary writers, inky wretches, and aspiring professional novelists. |
Almost all works can benefit from professional editing. which is why the major publishers spend som much money employing top-shelf editors. However, the literary slugs also know this, and parlay this knowledge into $$$ by steering new writers to shady book doctors/editors. That's not to say that all agents who recommend editors are slugs, but....well, okay, most are. You have several options. First, you can query several additional agents, and wait for the replies. If you're worried about the agent(s) being legit, you can check "Writer Beware." It can be found at the Science Fiction Writer's Association (SFWA) website. (The listings are NOT just for agents who handle science fiction. You can also check the "Preditors and Editors" resources, or the agent listings at WritersNet (http://Writer.net.) If you think the agent had legitimate concerns about your work, you could always look for a free-lance editor to give you some feedback. Expect charges to range from $2.00-3.00 per page. Of course, there are expections to every rule, and some editors may take on the project for less....or more. Have you ever been caught hiding bodies in your closet? No? Good place, uh? |
