Hi there. Good questions. Here are the answers:

Gift points never expire - unless you close your account and haven't used them. Then you just lose them obviously.

There's no real protocol. You can award them if you like a piece and feel it merits gp's. Obviously people you review for also want to award you, and would probably give you gp's too. It just gets difficult when both want to do the same thing and give the same amount. What I tend to do is do a review without rewarding gp's, unless it's exceptional. If I do and the reviewee answers back with gp's too, I usually review again as a sort of payback. There is no real rule..just go with how you feel.

I usually give gp's for reviews done for me though. I judge on the usefulness/encouragement of the review and award gp's accordingly.

For contests you can send gp's by email, unless they have given a specific group number to send to. If this is the case, then you go to your gift point area, which you can find at the top of the page, and send that way, by putting in the group number and amount of gp's you want to send.
