“No Sudden Movements” Don’t flinch or I’ll buckle Don’t reach or I’ll hide Recoiling to that place Buried so deep down inside Don’t jump or I’ll startle Like an innocent child Or some uncivilized primate Raised for years in the wild Don’t blink too much Or stare, come to think of it If you do, I’ll come undone At the seams, bit by bit Don’t clap too loudly I’m far too modest to hear And the thunder it renders Sounds like drums in my ear Don’t skip, leap or fumble I wouldn’t know what to do For a moment just listen As I listened to you No sudden movements, please Just sit and be still Be there for me now And say you always will |
