I have to say that sounds immature, ridiculous and possibly illegal. If I was in a rebel rousing mood, I'd have these people checked out and reported because they could be guilty of copyright infringment (among many other things).

Sounds like an ego thing to me, and they're the ones that make it a royal pain for lyricists.
