"Unsolicited Bulk eMailing", for any reason, is SPAM. Unless those people asked you to notify them, as part of a big group, when you were going to have a new contest, you should not have sent the email. There are many ways to advertise to members within Writing.Com new items or contests. Email should be considered a means to communicate in private; not as a means to publicize new items, contests or the like.

If we allowed members to mail everyone they knew on the site each time they added a new item they wanted people to read or a contest they wanted people to enter, our servers would grind to a halt from overload.

Since you note that you emailed me, I did feel your email to me was SPAM and it was promptly deleted. Hopefully you realize this mailing was done in error and it shouldn't be a problem or happen again.

SPAM'ing is strictly prohibited on Writing.Com. Our "User Agreement" states this and it can be found linked from the bottom of any page. It's also linked from the "My Account" page.
