Which of the many genres that I've never written for should I choose from the long list? Finance? That's a bit of a stretch. I don't even think I'm qualified to write about why I shouldn't write about Finance. I spotted Gothic and almost jumped on that bandwagon, right up until I remembered the one horror story I'd written, which blew it up. I don't see myself as Inspirational, but that doesn't mean I haven't attempted to be. LGBTQ+, I most likely won't ever write in this genre. My personal experiences regarding this topic are just that, personal, and something I will keep that way. But if I had to pick one genre in particular, it would be the Religious genre. To me, religion is one of a person's most personal aspects. Almost any attempt to write about religion is almost sure to stir controversy, create animosity, alienate folks, and lead to misunderstandings. Do I have views on religion? Yes. Do I feel a need to share or force-feed others those views? Absolutely not! Might the mention of religion be touched upon in my writing? Most likely, religion is prevalent in our society, and would be in any society in which my writing might be created. In fact, the Bilton chronicles, if I ever get back to them, would have a religious arc that not only involves the protagonist but also sweeps several minor characters into its grip. There are others on the list, several of which I would use to set a theme, but many of them creep into view as a subset of a story. So the real truth is; Never Say Never. |
