My unwritten genre is Genealogy. I know where I come from and where my ancestors come from. I don't think that I have to write about it. To me, Genealogy also conjures images of hours and hours of research into people who aren't there any longer to corroborate my findings. I also shy away from anything that can catalogue me. Anything that's typed into a search engine creates a permanent record somewhere. I don't want anyone to track who/what I am through my searches. Since everything that's on the internet has been put there by people, who each have their own ulterior motives, I don't think I can't fully trust the findings anyway. I could use science, but that won't happen because it ties back to my dislike of getting catalogued. That means DNA testing of my heritage through a private company or a government is out of the question. I also think that Genealogy is a type of vanity project where people try to find a connection to some famous person. According to one of my German relatives, our ancestors were making music for some Hungarian royalty. Okay. I have nothing to do with that. It’s not an achievement I had or one that I can take credit for. Not to mention, those musicians for the Hungarian royal spelled their last name a little differently than our modern last name. The mental gymnastics to massage the facts until they fit aren’t really my cup of tea. That being said, I can understand when people have a legitimate reason to hunt down relatives and use genealogy resources to find them or prove a connection. 275 words |
