A tarnished copper coin, not much
And the beggar's hand slips away
Leaving a memory of the touch, a smile
And my eyes return to this earth to find
my careless foot a snail has crushed
Its wet essence mixed with mud
Sadness, with it the stench of life rushes in.
Inhaling it deeply, I am grateful for penance
But my heart is unconvinced of my worth
A tarnished copper coin, not much

How might the poet even design
Inspiration from and for Solace
Jumbled thoughts start to align
Keyboard clatters, creative us

Long pauses as think and question
Madness to the Mundane unmuted
No Holds are barred in this expression
Once finished, the Prompt is saluted

Beauty has dimmed, her brunette locks are now silver
The youthful blush and gleam have faded from her skin
Vim and vigour are ebbing, now her hands quiver
And her gentle eyes have faded like old denim

She puts on her floral dress and also lipstick
Then takes a boosting tipple, a shot of liquor
Heading out into the night to dance one last time
She wears her favourite shoes, the ones with glitter

Cupid you upstart, you under-aged jerk
Passing out blue pills, an getting girls to twerk

Instead of lovin V-night lands me in the gutter
Cause the gals don’t ‘get’ me, and guys don’t either

I don’t know why I bother to keep trying
jumping out of the fire to get my junk frying

What I need is cupids bow and ruthied cupid arrows
Love is as easy as finding pharaohs in sombreros

Gimmie his redbull wings, rip 'em off the small jerk
I should never trusted a dude with such a small dirk

If see ya next year, I’ll tell ya where to get off
I’d more fun at the Drs when he told me to cough

Take ya curls and sweet looks to some other sorry guy
Cupid you and me are done now, eff off afore I cry.

Tap tap tapped on a pipe
Morsecoded their plight

Dig dig dug with shovels
Lifesavers with muscles

Huff huff heaved the miners
Into fresh air just in timer(s)

Sob sob tears and embraces
Grateful streams on grubby faces

The first thing was that we tore out two walls.
Then hefted up a beam so the roof wouldn’t fall.
Chainsaw and level put in French doors grand,
Then, we built a bowling lane island as planned.

Bruising knees, the hardwood flooring was laid,
Then came hobs, sink and fridge, in slow cavalcade
It took 6 difficult months till we were finally done
In hindsight I recommend kitchen-reno to no one!

The girls were a burden that
I’d be glad to be rid
always Baaing and Bleating
those pet sheep off the grid

Fluffy bundles are gone now
so I don't understand why
their absence has me lonely
and missing them, I now cry

Prompt: "Only The Lonely" - Roy Orbison

p.s. They went to a neighbor that has their breed of sheep too, and have joined a flock that is not intended for slaughter. You can see them from the road if you drive down that way, and they seem to be ok.

Seeping round block-out curtains;
unwanted halo of light.
Covers try but cannot stop,
too soon departure of night.

Curled in bed with eyes closed,
as the noise of the world grows,
even though I don't want it.
Soft peace vanishes as life flows.

When the car broke down
He walked home

When it started raining
He went inside

When the roof leaked
He fixed it

But when he ran out of coffee
He cried

The family gathered around the fire,
where the melting pot simmered.

Grandma smiled as she cooked
while Grandad strummed a song

Father added more wood to the flames,
and Mother kept an eye on the kids.

All enjoyed the flavours of family
and savoured their genetic soup.
