I wasn't into Tupac Shakur either, but I loved the quote.
And yes, he was probably talking about the underprivileged people of color, but the idea speaks positively to all of us, daring us to rise over difficulties, regardless of our color, background, and stance in life.

You've hit the nail on the head, censorship is extremely dangerous. What Kimmel said did not harm anyone, he drew attention to the fact there was a lot of finger pointing and the new ballroom focus for the cheeto. The cheeto is weird everyday, why would that offend anyone?

I'm in the states and I don't understand it, either. And my opinion doesn't matter, also.
The way I see it, though, it used to be better than this, way back when.
And I learned what Kimmel said from your entry. I don't much watch or care for TV, and the internet is even more iffy.
Then, about Charlie Kirk, yes, no one deserves that. Especially not his two very small children and young wife.

Exactly my point. Flashy careers do not necessarily make role models, if that flashiness doesn't include being good, moral, and altruistic. And also, nobody is perfect.

I agree with Joy, many of us are unwilling bystanders in the majority of our current politics. Now, we're watching freedom of speech, the right to vote without harassment and losing more everyday.
The rising cost of groceries, drugs, insurances there is no unfeeling those and unfortunately the numbers won't be as visible as they were on 9/11. This country hasn't been the same since that day and I'm afraid it's going to become much worse.

The world is still a bystander with just about everything. Then, at times, one country or other, takes the side of a country on either side of a conflict, which doesn't help, either.
I worry about the consequences and hope we may learn very quickly.

Sept 20 - Friends

Prompt: “There is no surer foundation for a beautiful friendship than a mutual taste in literature.” ― P.G. Wodehouse. Think about your friends for a minute, do you share the same taste in literature? Maybe movies? Maybe food? What makes your friends special to you?

I'm old. Kinda. I have certainly been around the sun enough to have collect many different groups of friends, each with their own unique interests - to the point that you'd be forgiven in thinking I have split personalities.... not just one... many.

What makes a friend special is the experiences that we share together. Yes, we may have similar tastes in literature, art, music, movies, food, or sports. But it doesn't have to be all or nothing. And it's not what friendship is based on - at least not the ones that last.

I love debating what's better... Star Wars or Star Trek, or who could lift Mjolnir, just as much as I like talking about moon phases and why I think the crows outside my house are my spirit animals - yes, I have my own murder! I love reading about Welsh, British, and European folklore, as much as loosing myself in a Stephen King novel. I have friends that cover the different facets of my personality; the loud, the crazy, the quiet, the creative, the dark sides of me.

Each phase of my life has held different challenges, "hardships", and lesson that needed to be learnt. It's the people who have survived those baptisms of fire with me that hold the title of friends. Surviving (high)school, college, broken hearts, betrayals, work at different companies, kids....

There is a different type of friends:

The transient ones that will come into your life at a certain point and then leave as you move on - they were never meant to stay in your life. You'll say hi in passing, you might remember their name - you might not.

There are the other ones that were important to you, they made you who you are, you look back on them fondly (or not) but it's with hindsight.

And then there are those that are so embedded in your bones and your souls that there is no removing them - and to be honest it feels like home having them there, so why would you.

It's the later that gets to see all of me; the good, the bad, and the ever so slightly twisted. I guess that's what makes a friend special - the ones that you let see behind the curtain and they love you anyway.
