A rant, that will hopefully help us all get it out of our systems and into view.

I just can't stand it anymore! It should be so much simpler, so I think I'd like to take a shot at it all......

It seems that we keep electing the wrong people. They get to the Capitol and forget they were elected to do the work of the nation, they look out for their party, their friends, and themselves. Here's a few examples:

1. They got together and voted for a national Lacrosse day. I never played Lacrosse, and don't know anyone else who did. But our congressional leaders got together and ignored the real issues for approximately three days to set this up and make the declaration.

2. Every time I turn around, it seems that congress is getting involved with professional sports with committees, hearings, etc. At a cost of millions of dollars, I think our tax dollars should be used to concentrate on issues that affect the public, like unemployment, education, poverty, and health care. I don't care how much the NFL pays its players and coaches. I don't contribute to all that, but I do pay taxes for a congress that is supposed to be taking care of the public trust, and not armchair quarterbacking the NFL (pun intended).

3. I think we all hear from our elected officials only when their re-election bids are approaching.

4. And speaking of taxes, why is it so many of the rich and powerful pay nothing in taxes? You know, we can fix this.....

Let's think about this:

If a congressman or senator has been in Washington for two terms, it is time for them to leave. No more incumbents. There doesn't need to be a term limit, we should limit them ourselves!

If a member of congress misses more than 3 votes, they should forfeit $1000 from their salary. Once they reach missing 10 votes, they should forfeit $10,000.

The House Majority Leader and the House Minority Leader should be required to share an office. That's right. If we force them to look at each other day in and day out, maybe they'll remember that they should be Americans first, and represent their parties only when out of the office.

Let's get rid of the tax code and the IRS. No more income tax. A 1% federal sales tax would ensure that EVERYONE contributes to the government's needs, not just those who make too much to collect public assistance, but don't make enough to hire a CPA to find every loophole. That way, I figure a millionaire will pay a fair tax on his Ferrari, just as I will on my Ford.

How about making a rule that would prohibit a former member of Congress from practicing law in their home state for a period of 2 years upon leaving office? If we could get the lawyers to quit running for office, maybe we could get some honest people who would do the job in Washington.

Sigh. Okay, I'm done for now, what do you think?
