This is my blog, a space for me to ponder random thoughts and chase down ideas. It will mainly be about my erotica (and possibly erotica I find on the site or in the world) so some of the topics may contain graphic language and concepts some people are uncomfortable reading about.
I have no plans for how often I'll post, I have some ideas about what I will post about but my plans are apt to change on a moments notice.
If you have slightly voyeuristic tendencies feel free to follow me in silence or you can post comments as the mood takes you. In truth I'm not really expecting anyone to do more than take a quick peek and then move on to better more exciting things.
I say it's a good thing. It's good to test/expand your range, and a steampunk/erotica/romance piece sounds like a good blend on genres. It's fun to dabble in areas that you usually don't write in. Write that sucker up M-Stalker, I can't wait to read it.
I always thought porn in the US was R-rated. What a crazy naming system you have! Over here it was rated 18 which is the same rating as a lot of porn films. Although back in the 70s maybe the R18 rating was more common for porn.
I have discovered in 1989 they made "Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders" who knows if it will be in the same style as the first or not.
I saw Flesh Gordon back in college or just after graduation when it was first released. I think it was just "R" rated and not really porn. I remember it as a very good parody for anyone who isn't easily offended or embarrassed. I also remember a movie called the Groove Tube that played with Flesh. Have no experience to compare it to real porn.
I think you are on to something. Out of being who we comes a sense of knowing what to do. Obviously the Red Shoe Diaries must have made quite the impression. Thanks for sharing.
I agree, I can't see it as a genre going away. But it was an interesting chapter.
Oddly, society seems to become more prudish and less prudish, adult entertainment is much more inclusive than ever before covering almost every possible kink you can think of. But, at the same time society seems to be trying to push it to the outskirts.
For example you have kickstarter which refuses to have adult themed content (and as is seemingly common now, adult means sexual, they are perfectly happy with horror, violence and gore), but then you have offbeatr which is basically porn's answer to kickstarter.
I think erotica will always be a separate genre in the way that books about food will always be a separate genre. Any category that focuses on one aspect of human existence creates a genre. Even if a mainstream novel has a graphic sex scene in it, there will still be those who want to read books containing lots of graphic sex scenes.
I think there is a misconception that historically human society is progressing from a "more prudish" state to a "less prudish" state. Actually, the ancient Romans had paintings of penises on their walls and sculptures of men with erections in their homes. The Greeks put sex scenes on their household pottery. We tend to view ancient civilizations as less erotic than they really were because prudes destroy the erotic artifacts and preserve the non-erotic artifacts.
The primary motivation for prudish behavior is parents not wanting their underage children to engage in reproductive acts. So they put prudish injunctions on them: "Don't get naked with your friends. Don't let anyone touch or see your privates."
I agree. Generally I don't like to knock people's prompts, but all of those things really hem you in as far as a story goes. Not to mention hemming you in as far as an erotic story, no less. I like prompts that focus one's creativity, not cramp it.
