Utilitarian Beauty

It's the utilitarian beauty
of ceramics--
whether it's a coffee cup
or a soup bowl--
that attracts my poetic eye,
and arouses my muse

A white coffee cup--
decorated with the black letters
of an inspiring quote--
waits on top of my microwave
to hold black coffee,
sweet dark hot chocolate,
or cream of mushroom soup.

The utilitarian beauty
of multitasking ceramics
makes urban life more inspiring
and breakfast or lunch
more enjoyable.
