Quartz Watch

Quartz Watch

The gold second hand
moves jerkily
around the white face of my new quartz watch.

Jumping silently from one second to the next;
it hops
past the black hour hand,
the black minute hand,
over the black numbers,
and the framed day-date.

The question is:
Does the second hand move
when I'm not watching it?
