Morning
Before and After Daylight Savings Time

outside my window
early rising sun transmutes
pine tree bark to gold

bright highlighted clouds
light curtains fall on mountain
silhouettes at dawn

dawn's pink finger points
west across the blue streaked sky
to retreating night

late rising sun turns
charcoal gray clouds to red-hot
barbecue briquettes

at day's first light
Midnight sets in the window
watching Mourning Doves

in a shaft of light
an ant crawls up a grass blade
growing through the cement

new rose buds reflect
the firmament's pastel hues
off cinder block walls

I am not sure what year this was written. I wrote it when Mom and i were living in the house on Bracken Avenue in Las Vegas.
