The Unexpected

The Unexpected


The fog was dense on Spirit Island
         when we bumped into each other.
I could tell she had been lost,
         turning one way - then another.

The island was my friend -
         the fog I was used to.
When she held my hand,
         I knew what I needed to do.

The journey would be long -
         rocky in places,
Before we reached land
         with the sun in our faces.

We pulled each other along,
         finally reaching our destination.
I watched her step out of the fog
         smiling from her aspiration.
