Mid-year reflection....
Today is the first day of the "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUSOpen in new Window. and the prompt is to look back from the start of the year to the present and share our "glory days".

At my age I can barely remember what happened yesterday so I had to consult my diary (yes, I keep one of those, too). The very best thing that happened to me as a struggling writer was being accepted by a few ezines. Back in March I joined the Active Writer's Group here on WdC and with some helpful reviews and encouragement to submit, I did just that...eight sumissions during the month of April. By the end of May, hearing nothing, I was down in the dumps. Then, three email acceptances came one right after the other. Nothing can compare to the heart flipping glee experienced from those five little words..."Your story has been accepted." And for a writer, hardly anything else can compare....except maybe "Your novel has been accepted." But since I haven't written one, who is to know whether it will or will not. From pessimism to optimism in an instant.

The most important thing I learned from this experience is...if you don't submit, you have NO chance of being accepted. Unlike actors and actresses who are discovered, publishers and editors do not need to go out looking for authors. They are inundated with an unlimited supply of reading material.

My stories are certainly nothing special. The only thing that got them published was submitting. So if you are reading this, I urge you...if you have taken the time to pour your heart into that favorite story, don't sell yourself short by neglecting to submit it somewhere. This is a great place to start your search, http://www.duotrope.com/. Happy hunting and best of luck....*Smile*

until next time...c

P.S. Just one little postscript. A little while ago I found out...yes, you can still eat an egg that has boiled for over thirty minutes! Before starting my blog, I put an egg on to boil for egg salad for my lunch. Just as I was finishing I heard a pop, ran to the stove, and rescued my egg in a waterless pan. Contrary to what I expected, after it had cooled, I peeled it and it looked perfectly normal. It made as tasty an egg salad as one boiled for eight minutes (my usual time). Even my pan was fine...but I will certainly try not making a habit of this egg boiling method *Wink*
