Day to day stuff....a memoir without order. |
The wind is humming along today, slamming doors so I have to keep them propped open, especially so Mopsy does not get squashed! I found a new walking route through a subdivision next door to us and got a big surprise. Almost in the exact middle of it, there is a little cemetery...only one stone...with a lady's name on it. The developer has put up one of those new plastic black picket fences around it so it almost looks like the old fashioned cemeteries. I looked her up online and apparently she was part of the family who owned the land before it was developed. I remember seeing horses grazing on it a long time ago. I wonder why she is the only one buried there? Next door to her little plot, the developer has installed a play area for children with multi-colored slides, swings, and jungle jims. I hope she liked kids. It is a very nice development. At the entry there are two huge retention ponds (don't know if they have those up north, I don't remember any when I lived there) but down here all developments have them for water runoff. Most times they are dry but sometimes when we have fierce and fast rainstorms, they fill with some water. Then, they are wonderful to see with egrets and ibis and all kinds of small birds flocking to the water. Management has even posted a "no swimming" sign, fine when there is water but silly looking when it is dry. This has become my favorite walk now. I love walking in springtime and autumn, not too cool, not too warm, just right as I've heard somewhere before {e:rolleyes), but really true. It makes me eager to get out there and go. In the summertime down here, I need only walk around 100 yards before sweat is beading up on my eyebrows and my face gets red...so I must enjoy it while it's nice.... until next time....c |
