Day to day stuff....a memoir without order. |
It made me think about when I used to go trick or treating when I was little. Remember collecting for UNICEF. All of us kids used to gather at our church and then go out enmass, trick or treating and collecting for UNICEF. Then when we came back, there would be a party. We didn't have to worry about glass in our candy, everyone was nice and always made a donation. I think I was around 9 or 10 so that would have been in the mid 50's. Costumes were usually homemade except for the mask. I remember once my best girlfriend was a clown and I was her performing monkey. What we would do for candy! I guess children that age still go to church parties. I don't know, no children that age in my family now, but I see signs at lots of churches for Halloween parties. No one goes door-to-door in our neighborhood, I guess because of the bad people out there. It's a shame...we thought we really worked for that candy. We are having beautiful weather, not Halloweeny at all...in the mid 80's today. We really need some rain. The birdies are flocking to my birdbaths. I had a real comedian today for a checker at the grocery store. When he rang up my kitty food, he wanted to know how many cats I have...only 1 I said. He said...you should put that cat to work and let him buy his own food. He talked nonstop. At least he was cheerful and friendly. What he said made me think of the email my daughter sent me last week. It featured a dog at the pound. A couple was going through trying to pick a pet. The first 2 or 3 were normal dogs...then they came to Harvey. He had his own video resume. He could cook, clean, do laundry, iron, wash windows, chauffer the kids, play chess, shine shoes, he even used the bathroom...you name it he could do it. When the video finished, he was ready with his suitcase packed....who could resist that? If anyone woud like to see it, let me know...I'll forward it to you. It was so cute... Until tomorrow.....c |
