the burning edges of this dying city

curl and blacken

memories metamorphoses

ashes to ashes carried away on the breeze

to pollute the streams

and all those dead dreams decompose

on the ocean floor feeding

on the monster sins sunken there

until eternity arrives and evaporates the past

forming storm clouds over

an already broken city

until acid rains eroding

the streets and the sanity

and the world is a wasteland

of wasted minds and ruthless souls spiraling

obtusely into oblivion

and until His kingdom comes the careless

rule and ruin and repeat

their capricious mistakes mistakenly

smug in their sinister sugar

coated deceit

the emblem of the downward slide

is the downpour of embers and falling stars

there's nothing here to wish on

the hapless and hopeless

await the fight against fire
