Question

A man lived in a house at the edge of a vast plain. The plain was empty but, in one direction, the land ended abruptly in a cliff. At this point, it fell away in a vertical drop of a thousand feet.

Every day the man would walk the few steps to the edge of the cliff and look down. Down there he could make out a winding road in green countryside and, occasionally, people walking or riding along in carts.

When asked why he did this, the man would answer that he was building his courage for the jump.
