For this round of paycheck earning activity, we are required to report on a genre we’ve yet to tackle and why we are yet to do so. Funny enough, as I went through the list, I realized I’ve written something that could fit into most of them! Fancy that. /pats self on back/ However, there are a couple that have me stumped, and one of them is this: Genealogy. Hm. According to The Google: Genealogy: noun - a line of descent traced continuously from an ancestor. - the study and tracing of lines of descent. - a plant's or animal's line of evolutionary development from earlier forms. So, based on that – are we to assume that writing in this genre would require one to focus on tracing a character’s roots or perhaps something non-fiction based – which would then cover the ‘Research’ genre, wouldn’t it? Either way, this is a genre that’s not really crossed my mind as much. The way I see it, dabbling into this genre would require something more than just a flash fiction or 1000-word story. I could delve into it, if I wanted to churn out a novel that looked back on a family’s history and create my own genealogy tree for said characters, however, this is something that would require time and patience – something I do not have at this time in my life, unfortunately. On the non-fiction side of things, someday it would be nice to do a deep dive into my family’s roots. My father was a treasure trove of history, but with his passing, it’s become harder to gather up material to know where to even start. (haha! As I type this, guess what commercial just showed up on my television screen – ANCESTRY.COM! you cannot make this up! ![]()
