Friday the thirteenth, it is a cool idea that just because a date falls on a particular day of the week that it is a somehow more significant one. And to consider it unlucky is just silly. I like months with Friday the thirteenth in them because I get paid two days early. That is always awesome. I do not get why thirteen is such an unlucky number. It is just a number. I do not get most superstitions. Black cats are perfectly lovely creatures. Generally they have no malice towards humans. Why should it be unlucky to have them cross your path? I have a stray cat that keeps trying to join our household who happens to be black. He is sweet and affectionate. He has tried following me into the house on several occasions. So far my Chihuahuas barking at him has turned him right around. But he keeps getting bolder. I would take him in but we do not have the money right now to take him to the vet and make sure he is healthy and has the appropriate vaccinations. We also can not afford to get him fixed. But we are expecting a bonus in July so if he is still interested we likely will have a new family member. Wait, where was I going with this? I did not start things off about a cat... Oh yes, superstitions, I was talking about Friday the thirteenth and other superstitions. Another weird one for me is step on a crack break you mother's back. I knew kids who would search out and stomp cracks when they did not get what they wanted. Another one is break a mirror and it is seven years bad luck. I think the breaking of the mirror is the bad luck. Now you have to clean up glass and buy a new mirror. Not walking under a ladder is is just sensible. I do not understand why we need a superstition to discourage it. Bad things can happen when you walk under a ladder. Things could be dropped on you. You could destabilize the ladder it could fall, or the person using it could fall or you could knock something down on to your head. Not a good thing. But those things do not befall you because of bad luck. It is entirely blamable upon your own stupidity. Maybe at one point in the development of our species it was beneficial to come up with these superstitions but in our age where cause and effect are pretty clear, I think they are no longer necessary..
