THE RUBBER STRIPS
Running up the path the woman stumbled.  The Well Dressed Man grabbed the lady's hand, frantically pulling the woman up to her feet.

“Come on!" Jody said with concern as he rushed. “No looking back, this way!” And he pointed down towards the path.

The both of them ran down the stone walkway and disappeared into the fog. The Beast of Burden commanded what was left of its pack to seek them out at all costs. With the protective vale gone, their prey was fair game.

“Get them, wreck them, kill them both!”shouted the Ghoulish Fiend

Into the forest, wild wolves gave chase. Jody and the woman made good time as they ran out towards the road. The Dogs Of War broke off their attack and retreated back into the safety of the forest when they seen the lights blazing across the trees.

They both looked back with relief as their attackers called off their hunt. The woman was confused as she did not really know what happened.

“Do you mind explaining…”Began the woman before Jody cut her off abruptly.

“All will be revealed as soon as we get you out of here.” Jody explained as he helped her up, onto the side of the road.

On the edge of the lost highway, a shadow of an older car appeared. Its lights grew larger as it approached them. The white Oldsmobile cutlass supreme pulled to the side before stopping to idle. The door opened and a beautiful lady stepped out onto the asphalt.

Her long black hair brushed along the collar of her light blue Jean jacket as it moved with the breeze.

“Right on time I see, Katherine?" He joked with a smirk as he ushered the girl towards the car.

“And time is something we both have little of at the moment!" Kat remarked as she turned her attention to the woman.

“They are here, be careful” said Jody with concern

“It’s ok, come with me, I’ll will get you out of here.” Urged Katherine as she opened the door and the woman got into the white cutlass.

The wolves howling could be heard as they hid at the edge of forest. They could feel the presence of the book as it protected its user. Katherine had grown to know its powers well as she spent many years studying it to unlock its secrets.

“Send the vile beast back to his master and put an end to it, once and for all “she begged.

Jody could feel them in close proximity.

“Go! Go! Here they come." He cried as the Dogs of War mustered for their final attack.

Katherine ran round the other side of the car,  jumping into the driver’s seat. She threw the car into reverse and with the tires squealing, she backed it up. Then Kat shifted her whip into drive and hammered her foot down onto the petal, the car swung around shooting flames from its exhaust as it peeled out leaving two black rubber stripes on the pavement.
