Alice's First Dive

She does not want to get her head wet.
Everyone witnesses cowardice
Says Alice is silly and stupid

She has one good friend who does not laugh
Cheerfully modelling performance
Claims "diving is always fun, Alice!"

She takes a deep breath and holds her nose.
Advances cannonball position
Falls, splashes, wet soaking, feels happy

This is a ninesquare poem. I had to write a poem with that form for a contest. It was a very frustrating experience to say the least. There were several moments when I wanted to forget the whole thing. The final result was something that I wasn't particularly proud of. But I submitted it and guess what? It won the contest. Not to mention, it received several positive reviews. I like to think it was because the poem is about such a happy topic.
