Please… I do so much to make you happy;
Breakfast in bed is the least of my deeds.
I bring home flowers, chocolate, books,
I work hard to give you a luxury lifestyle.
Yet all I get is a hug and kiss
A hurried word or two.
You're distracted, usually,
By smartphones and shiny things:
Immature, perhaps—
Understandable, if I tried,
But quite painful, nonetheless.
At least assure me our love is reciprocal:
Eye contact, a smile, something sincere.
Otherwise, what's the point?
Even parents desire gratitude.
If I needed you, would you be present
As I am for you?
