| Once upon a time--long, long ago-- There live a child who hid her feelings so No one knew her truly, no one even guessed That sweet smile hid her troubles if she were pressed Long sleeve dresses covered every blemish Each scar a battle wound not fit for the squeamish Bruises and cuts always her own fault For she never could behave like she ought A tiny warrior who felt the brunt of another's anger Who begged for Jesus to come and save her, To take her away from her hell--take her to heaven And this prayer would be answered before age seven An angel now, she sings with all her might And helps others like her amidst their common plight She knows she'll soon shed her wings once more And leave the safety of heaven's doors Perhaps another family would love her and laugh Perhaps she would find solace in a warm embrace Perhaps another chance to be all that a child should be A free spirit not broken but cherished, perhaps she'd see |
