I lost my heart
amid song and dance,
meeting eyes across the crowded room,
and then seeing it fly to him,
pulsing and red and dripping blood
so that the dancers screamed
and the music stopped
and he turned away
and my heart was scared
and hid behind my head
until the screaming stopped.
