Mother! You must believe me! I have always known something was going on with that cat, and now I have proof! It's a cookie thief! Let me demonstrate.

Earlier today I noticed that you had baked exactly twelve cookies. I even counted them myself, to make sure they were all there. Now there's only eleven left! You and dad were out, so no one else were in the room. Ergo, the cat is a criminal. May I have a cookie for clearing up the crime?
