The Orange

The Orange

The orange is the perfect fruit
its color inviting and tantalizing,
and its circumference comfortable,
when held in either my right
or left hand.

The orange
is God's most delicious gift--
it gives us vitamin C
on cold winter mornings
when the sun
is hidden behind gray snow clouds.

In spring and summer,
the orange unites with other fruits,
tiny marshmallows,
and shredded coconut
to create Ambrosia
for Sunday dinners
and Independence Day picnics.

In autumn,
the orange becomes
part of an editable center piece
to enhance
family gatherings.
